FitSM Advanced Training in Service Operation and Control (SOC) - Amsterdam, 20-22 Nov. 2019

Wednesday, November 20, 2019 - 13:45 to Friday, November 22, 2019 - 14:00

T Service Management is a discipline that helps provide services with a focus on customer needs and in a professional manner. It is widely used in the commercial and public sectors to manage IT services of all types, but current solutions are very heavyweight with high barriers to entry.

FitSM is a lightweight approach to professionally managing services. It brings order and traceability to a complex area and provides simple, practical support in getting started with ITSM. FitSM training and certification provides crucial help in providing services and improving their management. It provides a common conceptual and process model, sets out straightforward and realistic requirements and links them to supporting materials.

This two-day Advanced level course aims to provide individuals with deeper knowledge of the ITSM processes focusing on service operation and control.

FitSM Advanced Training in Service Planning and Delivery (SPD) - Amsterdam, 18-20 November 2019

Introduction to Jupyter and Open Science - Training

Friday, September 27, 2019 - 09:00 to 18:00

EGI Notebooks is a new service from the EGI e-infrastructure collaboration, providing a user-friendly and highly flexible Jupyter-based web environment for researchers to develop and execute data analysis and visualisation ‘notebooks’. Notebooks can contain programming codes in various languages, HTML scripts, dynamic visualization and equations as well as images and explanatory text to provide guidance and context for the data analysis. Through notebooks users can easily share concepts, ideas and working applications, capturing the full analytical methodology, connections to data and descriptive text to interpret those data. With the Binder ‘extension’ of Jupyter one can turn a Github repository with Jupyter notebooks into an executable environment, making code, visualisation and documentation immediately reproducible and reusable by anyone, anywhere. Jupyter and Binder are becoming pillars for Open Science.

ELIXIR AAI Training

Monday, September 10, 2018 - 09:00 to 18:00

Agenda:

Introduction to ELIXIR AAI (slides, slides)

  • Introduction to the ELIXIR AAI
  • Supported protocols towards RPs - SAML2/OIDC
  • Procedure to register a service to the ELIXIR AAI test and production environment

Registering a relying service to ELIXIR AAI (hands-on) (slides)

  • Trainers help the participants to integrate their own service to the test environment of ELIXIR AAI
  • The trainers will provide a virtual machine with a test service for those participants who haven’t brought their own service

Based on participants’ request we have prepared additional topics

  • ELIXIR identifiers
  • Attributes
  • User’s group memberships
  • Tiered access to data
  • Permissions API
  • Level of assurance and step-up authentication

Jupyterhub Deployment - hands-on training

Monday, May 6, 2019 - 15:30 to 17:30

Jupyter provides a powerful environment for expressing research ideas as notebooks, where code, test and visualizations are easily combined together on an interactive web-frontend. JupyterHub allows to deploy a multi-user service where users can store and run their own notebooks without the need of installing anything on their computers. This is the technology behind the EGI Notebooks service and other similar Jupyter-based services for research.

EMBO practical course on Practical Integrative Structural Biology

Sunday, November 3, 2019 - 17:00 to Saturday, November 9, 2019 - 22:00

Characterizing the structure of macromolecular complexes is crucial for understanding their function. For many complexes, however, solving their structure using a single structural biology technique is very challenging. Integrative structural biology combines different experimental techniques with computational modeling to build structural models of such challenging complexes.

Application of integrative structural biology requires an in-depth understanding of both different experimental approaches and computational modeling. To provide advanced training in such a highly interdisciplinary skill set, this EMBO Practical Course will teach how to interpret data from major structural biology techniques and how to integrate this data using computational methods. The course location at the Hamburg Unit of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory and the Center for Structural Systems Biology on the DESY campus will provide on-site synchrotron SAXS and MX beamlines for training. Hands-on practicals will use a well-studied model system, for which data from all main structural biology techniques are available.
