The EGI Applications Database (AppDB)

The EGI Applications Database (AppDB) was recently expanded with the Virtual Machine Operations (VMOps) dashboard. The VMOps dashboard provides graphical interfaces and high-level services for users to manage Virtual Machines and Virtualised Appliances on federated cloud infrastructures, particularly on the EGI Federated Cloud and community-specific cloud federations, for example the ELIXIR Competence Centre Cloud Federation

The EGI Federated Cloud is a seamless network of academic private clouds and virtualised resources, built around open standards and focusing on the requirements of the scientific community. Access to this infrastructure was until now possible via programming APIs and command line interfaces. The VMOps dashboard, the topic of this webinar, recently extended the possibilities with a graphical portal interface, significantly reducing the burden to manage virtualised resources in federated clouds.

This webinar will introduce the key capabilities of the VMOps dashboard, particularly:

  • A wizard-like builder that guides users through the selection of virtual machine images, virtual appliances, cloud resources and contextualization scripts to deploy complex applications or services in federated clouds.
  • Graphical interfaces and tools to monitor and manage your applications/services in federated clouds, independently of underlying cloud technologies.
  • A scalable architecture composed of a generic front-end and several, technology-specific back-ends for load balancing, and with a RESTful API to integrate with 3rd party services.

The EGI Applications Database is developed and operated by the Institute of Accelerating Systems and Applications (IASA) on behalf of the EGI Foundation as an EGI Core Service.

ECAS

This training introduces how to use the ENES Climate Analytics Service (ECAS). ECAS enables scientific end-users to perform data analysis experiments on large volumes of research data from multiple disciplines.

PaaS Orchestrator

This training video introduces the PaaS Orchestrator develped by INDIGO-DataCloud. The service collects high-level deployment requests from the software layer, and coordinates the resource or service deployment over dynamic Mesos clusters or directly over IaaS platforms.

EGI DataHub

This course introduces the EGI DataHub and Open Data Platform and how to exploit their main features such as:

  • creation of distributed filesystems;
  • access to distributed filesystems through POSIX and CDMI interfaces;
  • exploiting DataHub and Open Data Platform features from a cloud VM hosted in the EGI Federated Cloud;
  • publish data in open data catalogues such as OpenAIRE.

B2ACCESS

The training introduces the B2ACCESS Service. B2ACCESS is an easy-to-use and secure Authentication and Authorization platform developed by EUDAT. B2ACCESS is versatile and can be integrated with any service.

B2SHARE

This training repository provides training material and in-depth information in using the B2SHARE service.

B2SAFE and B2STAGE

This training module provides you with instructions on how to deploy B2SAFE and B2STAGE. It also shows you how to use these services. Moreover, the module provides hands-on training on Persistent Identifiers, more specifically Handle v8 and the corresponding B2HANDLE python library.

B2HANDLE

The document introduces the general concepts of the B2HANDLE service.

B2FIND

This training module provides detailed instructions for the usage of the B2FIND service. We explain how to employ B2FIND as an external metadata portal service for communities and how scientists from any community can search through metadata provided to B2FIND.

EGI Cloud Compute

This training introduces the EGI Federated Cloud which is part of EGI infrastructure. The Federated Cloud is a seamless network of academic private clouds and virtualised resources, built around open standardsand focusing on the requirements of the scientific community. It is targeted at researchers and research communities that need to access digital resources on a flexible environment.
