The EGI Federated Cloud is a IaaS-type cloud, made of academic private clouds and virtualized resources and built around open standards. Its development is driven by requirements of the scientific community. The result is a new type of research e-infrastructure, based on the mature federated operations services that make EGI a reliable resource for science.

When using EGI Federated Cloud resources, researchers and research communities can count on:

• Total control over deployed applications

• Elastic resource consumption based on real need

• Immediately processed workloads – no more waiting time

• An extended e-Infrastructure across resource providers in Europe

• Service performance scaled with elastic resource consumption

Diving into four services developed in the EUDAT project: for data discovery (B2FIND), data exchange (B2DROP), data publishing and preservation (B2SHARE) and data annotation (B2NOTE). These services are now maintained and provided by the EOSC-hub project, which has started in 2018 with the aim to provide an access and delivery channel for the services, software and data provided by e-Infrastructures and research communities across Europe, working towards the future European Open Science Cloud.

This workshop is co-located with the Research Data Alliance (RDA) Plenary #11 meeting. The IEEE Big Data Governance and Metadata Management (BDGMM) is sponsored by the IEEE Big Data Technical Community (http://bigdata.ieee.org) and the IEEE Standards Association (http://standards.ieee.org/index.html) with the goal to study where there is a need and opportunity for developing IEEE Standards for Big Data governance and metadata management. Research Data Management (RDM) concerns plans, policies, programs and practices that control, protect, deliver and enhance the value of research data. The aim of the training is to present and discuss research data management tools and services and is aimed at researchers and research communities.
