This is a website for an H2020 project which concluded in 2019 and established the core elements of EOSC. The project's results now live further in www.eosc-portal.eu and www.egi.eu

Training events

FitSM Foundation training (co-located with the EGI Conference 2020)

Thursday, November 5, 2020 - 08:45 to Friday, November 6, 2020 - 14:00

IT Service Management is a discipline that helps provide services with a focus on customer needs and in a professional manner. It is widely used in the commercial and public sectors to manage IT services of all types, but current solutions are very heavyweight with high barriers to entry.

FitSM is an open, lightweight standard for professionally managing services. It brings order and traceability to a complex area and provides simple, practical support in getting started with ITSM. FitSM training and certification provide crucial help in delivering services and improving their management. It provides a common conceptual and process model, sets out straightforward and realistic requirements and links them to supporting materials.

FitSM is the reference framework being used in several EOSC initiatives, among other research infrastructures as well. Through FitSM, the aim is to conduct effective IT service management in the EOSC federated environment and achieving a baseline level of ITSM that can act in support of ‘management interoperability’ in federated environments from EOSC related projects.

In addition, participants have an opportunity to receive a formal certification backed by certification authority APMG for anyone successfully passing the exam (20 multiple choice questions, 13 required to pass). Both the costs of the training and the exam is covered and offered by the EOSC-hub project for free.

Container Security: what could possibly go wrong?

Monday, November 2, 2020 - 11:15 to 12:30

Containers are an emerging technology that is getting more and more popular as an alternative to full virtualization. The flexibility of containers enabled several new approaches in IT, like DevOps. However powerful and attractive the new technology is, we should not ignore security implications that are inherently linked to the principles or main implementations.

The goal of this training session is to discuss selected aspects related to containers and present potential security threats. We will focus mainly on Docker and its typical use-cases. The main principles, however, will be applicable also for other container technologies. The workshop is not meant as an exhaustive training session covering every possible aspect of the technology. Its purpose is to point out some typical problems that are important to consider, some of which are inspired by real-world security incidents.

Integrative modeling of biomolecular complexes”. From Protein Complexes to Cell-Cell Communication

Tuesday, October 27, 2020 - 14:00 to Thursday, October 29, 2020 - 15:30

These joint workshops aim to address these questions in two tracks dedicated to molecular, neurobiological interactions and cell-cell communications. Our goal is to bring molecular, cellular and structural biologists together and mix then with theoreticians and IT experts to mutually exchange ideas and approaches and to develop new strategies. Special emphasis will be on various modelling aspects, from molecules to cellular communities, as well as to the integration and analysis of large-scale datasets in these fields.

EGI Operations and responsibilities of an NGI

Thursday, October 29, 2020 - 10:00 to 11:00

This webinar will give an overview of tried and tested approaches to federated operations, both at the level of the infrastructure as well as at the national level.

Getting access to services in the EOSC Portal - The user and provider perspectives

Tuesday, October 27, 2020 - 14:00 to 15:00

The objective of the webinar is to present to service providers how their services can be offered via the EOSC portal. The talk will also highligth the different access options for the user to access services, and how users’ requests are served by the providers. Benefits and the duties an EOSC service provider has after the service is being published in the EOSC portal will be also presented.

DIRAC services for EGI users

Friday, October 23, 2020 - 15:00 to 16:00

DIRAC is a complete framework for building distributed computing systems of any level of complexity. Initially developed for the LHCb High Energy Physics experiment at the LHC collider at CERN, the framework was generalized for the use by multiple scientific communities in various domains. Services based on the DIRAC software are offered by several grid infrastructure projects such as France-Grilles or GridPP/UK. Since 2014, the DIRAC services have also been provided for the EGI users.

Cloud Concepts and Open Source Solutions

Wednesday, October 21, 2020 - 09:00 to Thursday, October 22, 2020 - 09:36

Introduce the DODAS EOSC-hub Thematic Service to the Lebanon researchers

II GBIF.ES online workshop: Management, visualization and analysis of ecological data using R software (beginner level)

Tuesday, October 6, 2020 - 09:00 to Wednesday, October 21, 2020 - 16:00

This course aims to lay the foundations to use and develop R in an autonomous way and to use the software to manage, manipulate, visualize and analyze ecology and biodiversity data. Special emphasis is placed on those tools that make it possible to be an efficient user of the program.

The workshop is part of the program of specialization courses of the Higher Council for Scientific Research, which will issue a certificate of use for those students who exceed the objectives set.

Structural and biophysical methods for biological macromolecules in solution

Wednesday, October 14, 2020 - 09:00 to Tuesday, October 20, 2020 - 19:00

Structural methods applicable to solutions facilitate structural and functional studies on biological macromolecules under close to native conditions. Fully exploiting this opportunity allows one to extract the maximum amount of biologically meaningful information and to relate the structural results to the function of the system. The main objective of this EMBO course is to train graduate students and postdocs in state-of-the-art methods to study biological macromolecules in solution. We aim at a comprehensive coverage of the major structural and biophysical techniques employed for characterization of high and low resolution structure and structural transitions, macromolecular complex formation, protein folding, stability, interactions and enzymatic mechanisms.
